Dear Brothers and Sisters, Today -- Ash Wednesday -- we begin our Lenten journey in a spirit of prayer and penance. From the earliest days of the Church, Lent has been a special time of preparation for Baptism. For those already baptized, Lent is a time of conversion and renewed faith.. Many Catholics spend that time on the three practices of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It is also a time to participate in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. The season of Lent lasts from Ash Wednesday until the evening of Holy Thursday. If Sundays are excluded from the count, the season lasts forty days.

1. Heavenly Father, as we journey through this season of Lent, grant us the strength to embrace sacrifice and penance, drawing closer to You each day. 2. Lord Jesus, guide us as we reflect on your ultimate sacrifice on the cross, renewing our commitment to live lives of love and service to others. 3.. The meditations will be centred on the Forty Days, following the normal progression of themes: weeks 1-2, faith and repentance; weeks 3-4, relationship with the Lord; weeks 5-6, redemption. There is also a second passage for each day (usually a New Testament passage) that serves as an application of the main text—this can be used for personal.
